This song which was featured in the animated film, Despicable Me 2, became the anthem of 2014 after Williams released it as a single in 2013. Fun Fact: This song was originally recorded by Cee Lo Green, but according to Williams, Green’s team did “not see it fit for him” and Williams’ version was released and used in the movie instead.

Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles

A Beatles classic, Here Comes The Sun, is a song that never gets old. It truly is one of those songs generations of listeners treasure and with its hopeful lyrics and upbeat sound, it’s sure to be around for decades to come. This song has been in more than one film, but Gen Z will remember the tune from Linsay Lohan’s The Parent Trap.

Walking On Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves

Another sun-themed song, Walking On Sunshine, kind of seems like a cousin to Here Comes The Sun. This ’80s song was featured in Ella Enchanted starring Anne Hathaway.

Shake It Off by Taylor Swift

Shake It Off is Taylor Swift’s most successful song of all time in regards to ranking on the Billboard Hot 100. It debuted at number one on the Hot 100 and kept that spot for four weeks. Shake It Off stayed in the top 10 of the Hot 100 for over five months. The music video has over 2.9 billion videos on YouTube as of 11/16/20 and it’s no surprise why. This song is upbeat and makes you want to get up and dance.

Drag Me Down by One Direction

Drag Me Down was One Direction’s first single to be released without Zayn in the group. The song has a more mature sound than some of One Direction’s other hits and it broke the record for most Spotify streamed track in one day. This song is all about feeling unstoppable and it’s the perfect song to listen to if you need to get hype.

I’m Yours by Jason Mraz

This 2008 pop song has a relaxed, bubbly feel and it’s one that people of all ages can enjoy listening to. If you’re feeling nostalgic for a time when loose-fitting jeans were still popular and Instagram wasn’t even a thing, take a listen to this acoustic hit about finding peace in love.

American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips, scored big with his debut single Home. This country-pop song topped the charts on eleven different Billboard charts. The song’s warm and comforting sound kind of makes you feel at home wherever you are.

Cool by the Jonas Brothers

Cool is the second single the Jonas Brothers released after they reunited in 2019. Its pop-rock sound is reminiscent of some of the earlier Jonas Brothers songs such as Burnin’ Up and Year 3000.

Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

This is the song the D.J. played at the end of every middle school dance and the marching band played just around the start of the fourth quarter during every high school football game. It’s one of the songs that makes you feel nostalgic for the ’80s even if you didn’t live through them. I don’t think I have to explain why it made it onto this list.

The Irish band, U2, sings this song that reminds listeners that every day is beautiful and should be cherished.

Lovely Day by Bill Withers

Lovely Day which has been used in multiple commercials and The Secret Life of Pets film is a song full of optimism. Recorded in 1977, this song has a soulful R&B sound we just don’t hear much of today.

ABC by The Jackson 5

Another ’70s hit, ABC by the Jackson 5 was one of their all-time greatest hits and it never seems to go out of style. Micheal Jackson might have been just a youngster when he recorded it but his vocals are still extremely impressive.

Surfin’ USA

This Beach Boys hit, makes life feel like a day at the beach even if you’re sitting in Chicago traffic on a snowy, Monday morning.

Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundations

The rock beat of this ’60s song is just electric. It reminds us of what we really need to work on as humans, building each other up! The chorus is catchy and it feels like one of those songs you would hear in a Johnny Rockets restaurant.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

If you can’t recognize this song by the ostinato that starts within the first two seconds you haven’t heard it enough yet. Originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, this sappy duet was featured on Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Tape Vol. 2 in the space action film, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Don’t Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John

Just one of Elton John’s genius hits, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart with Kiki Dee is one of those songs that makes you want to believe in love again. 2000s kids will remember it from Ella Enchanted and Gnomeo and Juliet.

Upside Down by Jack Johnson

Upside Down is an acoustic pop song that was originally written for the 2006 film, Curious George, starring Will Ferrel and Drew Barrymore. Although it never topped charts or won awards, this song is cathartic and rejuvenating, and fun all at the same time.

Party In The USA is Miley Cyrus’s most notable hit from her American sweetheart phase right after Hannah Montana but before Wrecking Ball. This teen pop song is one that will have every millennial and Gen Z girl screaming the lyrics along.

Treasure by Bruno Mars

Although it was released in 2013, this Bruno Mars song about how valuable a girl is, has big ’70s vibes and a very catchy chorus.

Golden by Harry Styles

Golden is the first track on Harry Styles’ sophomore album, Fine Line. It was loved by fans right away when the album was released in December 2019 but has increased in popularity in late October and November 2020 after the music video premiered and it was released as a single. The lyrics, “I don’t want to be alone/ loving is the antidote” are my personal favorite lyrics from this upbeat pop track.

Who Says by Selena & The Scene

Who Says is a song that reaffirms a message Selena Gomez has been pushing since the start of her career, everybody is beautiful and unique in their own way. In 2011, it won the Teen Choice Award for the best single of the year.
